THE IDEA

More than 1.1 billion people need glasses but cannot afford them. The vast majority of these individuals live in low-income countries already facing heavy burdens in the health, academic, and employment sectors. These are the populations that GoodVision serves.

Without glasses, the world is blurred and hard to navigate.  Corrected vision makes a better life possible.

GLASSES MEAN MORE THAN JUST SIGHT.

WHY VISION?

For those who cannot see clearly, access to vision correction and eye care provides the ability to learn, work and thriveIn many countries, there is limited access to basic optical care and many people never have a basic eye examination or are able to buy the glasses they need. That is why GoodVision exists. We are working to establish a system that brings clear vision to everyone.

THE FRAME

GoodVision glasses are made of flexible spring steel wire. It is very light and at the same time extremely robust – making it ideal for all environments. This is a significant advantage over ready-made plastic glasses.

FITTING THE GLASSES

GoodVision glasses are adapted on-the-spot to each person’s visual needs. This saves a trip to the eyeglass store, which is often a long and prohibitively expensive journey. Our program includes eye camps in remote villages, where our glasses are fitted and dispensed, convenient to people’s homes, workplaces and schools.

MANUFACTURING

GoodVision glasses are made on-site in Africa by trained individuals on a simple yet innovative bending machine. It requires no electrical power, is durable and virtually maintenance-free. This sustainable production is the core concept of GoodVision.

JOBS

Manufacturing GoodVision frames locally creates jobs where they are needed most. The raw materials are low cost and a complete pair of glasses are made within 15-20 minutes. Our producers work in teams and collectively produce several thousand pairs of glasses per month around the world.

GOODVISION TECHNICIANS

TRAINING CONCEPT

GoodVision has a year-long, specialized training program for optical techniciansBy the end of the first few weeks, trainees have learned to conduct simple vision tests and adjust glasses to an individual’s needs.

EYE CAMPS

Along with our shop network, our eye camps are critical for rural populations. GoodVision Technicians travel to villages and set up eye camps in convenient locations such as community centers, schools or churches.

AWARENESS

In addition to glasses delivery, an important goal for GoodVision is to provide visual health education.  Eyesight is more vulnerable in populations that work outdoors and are exposed to risks due to lack of protective eyewear and diseases.  Screening for visual problems and education about protecting eye health can go a long way to preserving sight.

What is it?

At 5 diopters of uncorrected myopia (nearsightedness)

Should I Run?

At 4 diopters of uncorrected myopia (nearsightedness)

Friend or Foe?

At 3 diopters of uncorrected myopia (nearsightedness)

Still Fuzzy!

At 2 diopters of uncorrected myopia (nearsightedness)

Looks Familiar…

At 1 diopters of uncorrected myopia (nearsightedness)

Better But Not Clear.
